Using propane bottle as additional receiver

I want to use a spare propane bottle as an additional receiver. Simple per various instructions on the web however I'm struggling to find a way of actually attaching pipework to the bottle !
I've destroyed two regulators trying to unscrew the bottle tail only to find they were crimped in and not screwed as web sites indicated
Then I looked at my bottle to bottle adapter for refilling smaller from a 47kg only to find the internal diameter is only 6mm and will be too small.

So what to other people do for attaching propane bottles to their airline system ?

For a propane bottle you could buy one of these, cut the pipe and fit a BSP hose tail.

I deliberately destroyed a regulator and soldered a brass BSP fitting into the brass bottle connector.

Just cut the fitting off and weld on a suitable one, or run a bsp tap down the old thread

Bear in mind the thread in the top of a Propane bottle is (usually?) 1/2 BSP anyway.

I use propane so the idea is an adapter so I can then utilise an empty bottle as and when the extra air capacity is needed without altering the bottle in any way.
This is what I expected to find if the tail unscrewed from the regulator -

I can find a couple of UK suppliers but when you add postage they work out more than I wanted to pay - ie using old regulator and bits from parts bin = nothing

Wouldn't advise using a bottle for air then sending it to be refilled when the mood took you. You'll fill it with condensation as a receiver for a start, and it'll stink for ages in use as an air receiver.

its not the done thing and pointless and as said it will stink if not cleaned out properly

I certainly wouldn't use the same cylinder for two applications.

If you require something larger than 1/4 then my suggestion would be to forget about the tap fitted to the cylinder and either find something else with that thread on or weld a suitable fitting in place instead - e.g a weldable hosetail fitting: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless...t=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item1c492195a8

Giving up on this idea of using a spare propane bottle.
I've got a surplus 100ltr air tank off my old Ingersol Rand so intend somehow mounting that vertical to use instead. I'm thinking of a sack truck / welding bottle trolley type of thing so still easily movable.
