Using up gas.

My Mig gas bottle hit zero on Friday according to the gauge, but it's still flowing.
In an attempt to use up the dregs (I've paid for it after all) so I can swap it up before it inevitably runs out over Christmas I was having a play this morning.



Did a few other odds and sods, and still there is gas. Chances are it will run out over Christmas regardless.

unless you dont actually need the gas ,,, then it will last to Feb ,, if you need the gas it will run out ten mins after the shop closes , usually on a Saturday.

This is a great idea that someone would steal.

I can imagine contrasted onlayed metals brass copper stainless etc on an oiled lump of wood,
Maybe just the one with the work it would take.

Regarding the gas, personally I have two cylinders rented from BOC and if one is empty and another has 1/4 or less I usually take both for a refill as it is more economical for me to do so. It pains me a bit to take back cylinders that are not empty but then I just have to think about the cost differences.

If I take one cylinder back it costs me about 1hr in my time, 26miles of fuel and £19 collection charge.

If I take two back it costs me about 1hr in my time, 26miles of fuel and £19 collection charge, so exactly the same.

If I take them at different times it costs 2hrs, 52miles of fuel and £38 handling charge, so double.

The gas costs me under £15 for 1/4 cylinder.

Obviously if I am not desperate for getting the second cylinder filled I will just wait until both are empty but often I need two or I know I will run out halfway through a job when working away and waste time having to drive extra miles etc

@Hood as a heavy user, can you no get them to deliver? I'm just changing over to meser gas, and that's a big selling point for me, their agent here will deliver.

aye I had a laugh at their name too, hopefully they don't live up to it though, as their 3 yearly rental cost is about half of Linde, and air liquide... and for 4 bottles, that's quite a saving.

It costs about £85 for delivery so minus the £19 that is still £64, so more than it costs me in time and fuel.
