using waterbased paint on wheels- will it dry ok?

hi folks, im refurbing the wheels on my car and then painting them. i have paint but its water based, will it take ages to dry in my shed or possibly not dry at all? or should i just go and buy some 2 pak basecoat which i have used plenty of times in the shed with no bother.

Only from personal experience...I am not impressed with water based, my use of it did take ages to dry, coverage was poor and it felt 'soft' ...easy to mark.

I tried it on railings, a kids pushbike and a few other odds and sods, was not pleased with any of them, regardless of brushing on or spraying.

I think with water based you have to be able to dry/bake it properly...stick wit celly/1/2k

Wants heat and air movement ideally, to dry. Would take a long time to dry unassisted. Have only done little bits though.
A heat gun or a hair dryer should do the job, bit of a faff vs 1k or 2k though.

Needs a decent clearcoat over the top, ideally 2k. If you're wanting to avoid 2k, then best just go 1k basecoat & clear.

it will dry , id hold the gun trigger half way so its just blowing on it after each coat

will be hassle really , if you can get some solvent stuff might the best way

I've only used Auto Air Colours custom water-based which, as long as you don't lay it on too heavy, is very easy to use (I assume other water-based basecoats will be similar to apply). Small area like a wheel can easily be dried in minutes with decent airflow (hot or cold). I've clearcoated it with 1k and 2k - the 1k is adequate but the 2k is definitely better IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SAFETY GEAR!.

Waterbase will be fine to do your wheels but will take a little longer to dry than solvent.

I refurb wheels for a living and use waterbase for custom finishes or if i have to mix to a specific code. If i can i use solvent for speed of drying.

Use light coats and dry off well with alot of warm air movement such as a hair dryer and concetrate inside of spokes to make sure its really dry.

Once painted up couple of good coats of 2k clear and will be as good as new.

One thing i will say is make sure your prep is spot on if using waterbase as it wont hide any poor prep like solvent will.
