My dad has a 2011 Vauxhall Meriva 1.4 petrol. It's has warning lights on the dash for ABS, TC etc are on. Local garage diagnosed the ABS pump and quoted £800 for a new one plus fitting
He's had the car for best part of 8yrs, problem is his memory is not what it used to be so asking him any questions about its repair history is pointless
Bit of Internet searching show the Meriva range suffers with a cracked coolant tanks. The ABS module is under the header tank and if this leaks you get water ingress which wipes out the electronics in the combined ABS pump ecu unit
The header tank looks too clean to be the original, I'm guessing he's had it changed at some point in the past. No external evidence of coolant staining on the ABS unit though
Given that he's probably not going to be driving much longer I bought a S/H ABS unit and fitted it tonight, bled the brakes and the ABS and TC warning lights are still on.
Plugged in my diagnostic reader and it was showing the following if you query the ABS pump
Right rear outlet solenoid valve feedback inactive
Pump motor relay feedback inactive
All other functions were active
So, I removed the S/H ABS pump and refitted the original and as expected the warning lights are still there, plugged the diagnostic tool in and I get exactly the same info back regarding the solenoid valve and pump feedback
So is this a coincidence or should I be looking elsewhere
Plug that goes onto the ABS pump looks very clean, no evidence of water ingress or corrosion but I gave it a squirt of some contact cleaner anyway
