If that is 2 to 3mm plate then look at underside and you should see there is some breakthrough (aka penetration) that will indicate that the weld is going into the base metal and not just sitting on top. Any more and you have burn through!

6mm is quite thick, what machine and amperage were you using? The welds look quite steady which is good, but on 6mm plate you need to run a lot of amps and take it nice and slowly to penetrate.
If you want another trick, you can avoid that little bump at the end of your welds by coming back slightly before lifting off.

Nice one for all advice. Appreciate it. Ermm there is 7 notches and im on notch 6 for that. If i go onto notch 5 the welds become thinner and darker (not so bright) so 6 is best i think and im on one of the college migs i cant remember name but ill find out on friday. I know they have red lincolns and the one i was on was yellow. If that means anythin to you haha.

Yellow might be an Esab, quality machines make a lot of difference.

if you chop one end off, and file it smooth, it will give some indication of weld profile and penetration (thats if you have a powered saw, because hand sawing a 6mm plate would be too much effort for the benefit got back ) Although the use of an etching solution is needed to get a proper look.
Try a 3mm plate next time if you have one. and take a quick pic of the welder that you use and the settings.

your going in the right direction but all those welds are cold ....more amps needed

I'd agree. From what we can see of the profile from above, the welds are a bit too wide and a smidgen too low. A tell for a cold weld. It might have been better for a 2 or 3mm plate.
On the whole its not bad though. keep on practising.

Nice one for all the feedback! So use more amps the thicker the metal ? More penetration etc? Lol my dad said i should be using 2 hands them welds where only with 1 haha so should be alot straighter next time. Ill whack amps up tommorrow when i weld again. And i will take a pic of the 2 diff machines we have.
