Very high torque 1/2" impact wrenches?

Dunno if I'm just not looking in the right place, but I can't seem to find any really high powered 1/2" impact wrenches in the UK. The most powerful ones I can find are 420lb/ft working torque 1/2" impact wrenches, where as in the US, you can get a 800lb/ft working torque 1/2" impact wrench on Amazon, such as the one here.

I can only find that kind of torque on a 3/4" wrench over here. Also, has to work on a 9.5 CFM (FAD) compressor. That one from Amazon.com seems ideal, because it works off of 4 CFM! However, not available on Amazon.co.uk....

That must be some impact gun to give that much Tq off 5cfm.

Guessing it just doesn't waste any air, and as much as possible is used to give that kind of torque from a relitively low CFM. My Sealey puts out 400lb/ft working torque (460lb/ft max torque) and uses 5.6 CFM.

Funnily enough, as soon as I saw the Ingersol Rand I recognised it instantly. It's the same one that one of the traders on a car forum I go on uses. Have looked at that exact model in the past, but just totally forgot about it.

Ingersoll Rand, The "rolls Royce" of impact guns, When our squad were working on refinery shut downs, 1" drive Ingersoll Rand was the only gun worth using,both for performance and long life, mind you did see a 2" drive with the internals smashed to pieces,A couple of contract fitters were given the job of taking the nuts off a turbine steam chest,(5-1/2"Whitworth) they said the 2" gun (you had to lift it with the o/h crane)wasn't up to the job and had stopped working, after enquiring further it turns out they had tied the trigger up and had it hammering for about 20 minutes solid!! recommendation was use in 15 second bursts I think.cost a few grand to fix.

Trying to use a flogging spanner on a 5.1/2" dia bolt that has seen extremely high temps over very long periods(4years) and was was fitted originally by heating the bolts and tightening the nuts thro' a pre-determined arc would be a totally futile exercise.The nuts were removed the same way,heated with white hot rods and then the nuts flogged off, I should have explained in more detail, the nuts had already been removed and the 2"drive impact was just used to try and get the studs out of the steam chest after removing the valve covers, the nuts were welded back onto the studs with massive fillets and nd then anything that might work was tried,the impact was only used after all the other usual methods failed,Hydra-torque,newtorque etc.Believe me I'v done more than my fair share of "big hammer work" and if you hit these nuts with a big hammer they just ring like a church bell.

It the air pressure that gives the power not the CFM. CFM just allows you to work longer with out exhausting the suplly.

It's a combination of the two, a certain pressure at a certain rate of volume, No good having a high pressure if there is not enough volume of air.

The CFM is the volume of air consumed at the working pressure to achieve full torque.

Maybe the 5CFM specification is if you use it 5 seconds per minute :P I know my ingersol rand gun uses a LOT of air and can keep my 11CFM (FAD) compressor running almost constant.

Notice it also mentions a compressor with a free air delivery of 12CFM. That's a fairly decent compressor! How they determine 3CFM (average) I have no idea though.

I guess it might be similar to welders, in that a 180A welder won't usually run at 180A constant, but has a duty cycle of say 60%. So the 3CFM might mean the 'duty cycle' for using the impact gun is 10%. You would not run the gun constant on 3CFM thats for sure.
