Very thick and very thin!

These two items were cut on my plasma CNC....posting them mainly to show how versatile the little Hypertherm 30 is.

The rose was cut from 1.5mm steel for a man who was making a little plaque for his recently deceased wife......the 'artistes' tea cup shown for scale..... ...it is very delicate and only 15cm high.

The other is a plinth I made for one of my larger sculptures....10mm steel cut with the 30 amp plasma..it was one solid piece and I cut out the middle and welded it back on top - that was fun welding 10mm with my 'smallish' mig welder! Although the little plasma struggled, and I had to run the CNC at only 200mm per minute, it did a fine cut on the 10mm.

Do you get problems with the cut veering off at an angle on thicker stuff? When I use my Cut50 on 12mm plate I rarely get a perpendicular cut, normally it veers off at anything up to 30 degrees from vertical. I am wondering if I need to change the torch for a better quality one.

To be honest, this is the first time I've cut thicker than 4mm. As you can see, the 10mm has cut perfectly straight...but that may be because the CNC holds the torch perfectly straight too!

Plasma cutters can give slight angle to the cut edge, Some manufacturers recommend a direction of cut, depending on which side of the cut you wish to be the more perpendicular, The way I always remember when cutting circles is,..If i am going to be using the centre disc ( i remember this as a clock face) an cut in a clockwise direction, if you are going to use the plate with a hole in it I cut anti-clockwise, I believe there is more info on the Lincoln website.
Gerry, Sorry, fingers worked before the brain, Nice rose,you really have put the work in to operating your cnc, Would love to have one myself, but not enough room or demand to warrant one, Pity.

I must be the only person who is so glad they don't have a plasma CNC outfit:

Seeing some of the work Gerry does simply means I would be constantly broke buying sheets of steel to turn into great shapes and getting annoyed with people who thought I was overcharging for a simple (their opinion) cut out.

My favourite is still the tree/face/bush thingy.
