Vice pedestal

Found a nice vice the other day, but it needs a decent anchor, so I've spent a while knocking this up.

A 8" x 8" universal column upright

Just requires some holes drilling in the base and bolting down.

Should do the job.....but do I paint it or just leave that workshop pertina?

Get some red oxide on there at least.

Slap some Wicks red Metal paint on, then use and enjoy.

good for stopping rust and cleans easy . watch you don't scratch it or get any runs on the paint if its going to be used as an ornament

Nice stand! And, with some reluctance and a doff of my cap, I'll readily acknowledge that it is a better vice stand than mine!

With a bit of slap, plus a new bench grinder pedestal in the background....

Just need to bolt them down now.

Funny that here’s mine also on an 8” column.though this drops into a ground socket.the electrical socket lost its lid 6 years ago,maybe it’ll get replaced ??

Both are great pedestal's.

To me, working has always been much more enjoyable in a visually nice environment.

I use them for vices & benders in the workshop as well,the sockets are welded to a steel bar,set flush with FFL,WHIch is in turn welded the building framework,where the earth for the welders connected.

Build the pedestal so the vice jaws are the correct height for you or the average height user in the workshop.

Also remember the size of the vice also has a bearing height of the pedestal.
