So long as it’s earthed. The control on my wood lathe is very similar, cast iron with Bakelite type plastic buttons. Never zapped me, they look cool too.

That looks physically dangerous even if the electrical side is safe!
Maybe add a fan guard.
Or, if not, an emergency stop switch that's within reach of the fan. If you wear a tie allow for the fact that you may have your chin right up against that fan when you need to hit the stop switch...

I'd be happy to use it. Probably less likely to randomly burst into flames than the modern plastic ones.
We use a generator at events, the main lead from that runs out to distribution boxes and they have (I think) rcbo's fitted in them.
Wait for an electrician to chip in and confirm but I would think you could just add a single inline box to the generator output if you wanted some extra protection?

Just be wary if you open it up. Some of the old ones (MEM, Automemota) had asbestos inside as insulation.
With thought, all the cool looking old switchgear can be repurposed into low voltage control gear driving more modern contactors if you have any doubts about its electrical sutability. Seeing an old machine with modern switches does not look correct, like seeing Paddy Hopkirk's mini with an LED light bar instead of the three spotlights.

nothing wrong with using them . still thousands of em still in use as long as there earthed some old switches have a small amout of asbestos in them but its no big deal im, still here after 67 years

I have a startet on a 3 phase pillar drill , rebuilt the whole machine some time ago ( on my youtube channel) Generally old switchgear is over engineered to the Nth degree, which is why it lasts so long. The only thing to watch with the startet is that it is a mechanically latching starter, not a NVR relay, so if the power goes off and the drill stops, the drill (or whatever) will start running again when power is restored! When you get any new to you machine it is best to check the electrics for earthing and safwty BEFORE you plug it in!
