Visor type welding mask .... advice please

Balding pate, glasses and sunlight all make for a reflection on the in side of the lens of my variable transparency visor type welding mask .
I've tried to use a wolley hat to block out the light above my eyebrows so that it does not mirror glaze the inside of the screen but it was not really satisfactory as the head band had to be almost as tight as a vice and was uncomfortable to use .

What / how do you guys use to stop the light leaking in ??

The reflection is quite handy sometimes to spot people sneaking up on you.

I have a sif lite which is good inside but i have to work facing the sun, or the light im using in the work shop. If I dont I cant see a bloody thing from the reflection I get in the mask.

Never found this a problem as I could mostly move to face the light, but if I cannot then I use the hand held mask.

Sometimes, with mig, I find the autoshield a bit dark to see the joint I am welding anyway, but with the stick I do not, go figure!!!!

My mate has a speedglass, I can see mig at any amps with it, but it has the same problems with reflection if there is a bright light behind it.

So if in doubt use a hand held! Thats my advice.

How about using one of those, antiglare screen covers for satnavs and large screen mobiles, if it doesn't work you've only spent a few quid

I did use an old terry towel nappy over my head and mask but my mates referrred to me as s..t head

I have seen some cotton type welding skull caps and wondered if there is a short soft padded peak version that would seal most of the ingressing light out.

Even cheaper, I have several spare ones ... FOC..
I will clean the inner lens face and try it tomorrow.
