Wall mounted folding welding table?

Are there any threads for something similar on here?

I'd like to make a fold out welding table that's mounted to the wall. Unsure If I want something 500x50, or 1500x500. I know the general consensus is that bigger is better. I'm not doing anything heavy duty, mainly car stuff and general welding. Mig and tig. 200a max. I'd like to use it for jigging and holding pieces down whilst I weld. I'll be using 25mm box section to make the frame.

Regarding the top, do I go for slats, or a solid piece with holes? Or a combination of the two?

Something like this, with a gas strut to aid in bringing it up.

Instead of hinging it up, can you make it so it folds down? That way when you put weigh on it you are not trying to collapse it as it were.

also how about a pair of trestles / stands with a removable top? You can use them for other things but sit the welding top on when it’s needed. Look at tab and slot type tables for ideas about structure, they are stiff as hell and flat but weigh very little compared to a plate one

I’ll have to get a pic of mine for you. Made out of 75x50mm angle 5mm section. Folds away with a folded size of 1m square, 80mm thick so stores quite easily, just weighty. But I’m not restricted to one position, I can move it wherever I want. Takes 100kg on the edge without issue

They are expensive but I was meaning the idea. The strength comes from the pieces underneath the table top being on their narrow edge and resistant to bending. As there’s a grid of them it makes the table top very strong.

mine is 50x4 and then 4mm plate for the top. I’d use 6 next time though for the top. I cut mine to slot together but you could cut the slats and weld together in a pigeon hole type affair then put the top on? Tab and slot just makes it easy to assemble but you could do it with patience and a good fit up

No mate. But I have been looking for a way to get access to 2 grinders and a polisher in the least space.

Ditto. I’ve a good bench grinder and a second one which I fished out of a skip and fixed. Had its day but it’ll do for tungstens

I really like this. Might not steal that idea for this one, but I can certainly think of a use.

Not bad. But I can make better brackets from what I have lying around. Thanks for sharing though.

Another idea I was considering is making a bracket/hinge that folds up from the back, thereby enabling you to put things in front of it and also not whacking you in the shins as you unfold it...
