Whatever... I've been given, over the years, a Clarke Arc welder, which is fun for making crude joins on random bits of steel, and a SIP MIG welder, which I've never used, because the wire feed is so crap

Anyway, I'm more interested in joining aluminium and stainless steel (not to each other, mind) so looking into going down the TIG route but it's not a cheap hobby to get into, is it?

Tig welder would sound right, whether it describes the machine or the person using it and no it's not a cheap hobby especially as you mentioned the aluminium which usually doubles the price.
