Was this a good buy?

Ive just won this on fleabay. Im hoping its a good machine to learn on.

I won it at £100 so im quite happy with the price. It comes with a near empty bottle and a regulator. It has no wire however.

I havent paid the guy yet. I was hoping for a demonstration of it working when i collect. Im being over cautious because he only had 1 feedback (positive).

Im going to buy some wire from machine mart. Any advice on which to buy?

Also what else shall i look out for when/if he demonstrates it in operation?

I've got a Cebora buzzbox and it's a great little machine.

Don't expect the best possible results with wire from Machine Mart, buy a small reel (make sure you can fit it to the hub on the machine) to try.

I need to repair a stainless steel exhaust. Im planning on just tack welding it myself and leaving the rest to a pro.

will the following wire do the job?

He told me he uses 0.6mm wire. Im assuming thats what he machine is set up for.

If you want he repair to be stainless you will need to use stainless steel wire?

Do you know what reel sizes the machine will take? You may need an adapter?

Thanks Graham! Machine mart dont seem to do stainless wire. Im not sure ill be able to get some on order in time. Im still waiting to make contact with the seller. Hopefully he'll know if this wire is compatible.

So are there any not so obvious faults with these machines that an inexperienced punter like myself might miss on inspection?

if it's set up for 0.6 and you want to use 0.8 wire you will need 0.8tips as well or just use 0.6 wire on it

Sorry but you will not only need stainless wire but pure argon as well so by the time you set up you will be half way in cost to a new exhaust. I get a lot of boy racers asking to weld their stainless exhausts and I always use tig. I suggest you take it to a welding shop

I've welded stainless with ordinary CO2 / Argon Mix and stainless wire. Once the weld was ground and polished it blended in perfectly. From my experience I can't see why you'd need to use pure argon with a mig on ss.

Because the carbon in the co2 is introducing carbon into the weld diluting the stainless properties and even though it polishes up it will discolour over time. It still works fine though and if you keep it clean it should be no problem.

it will weld and polish up fine but as been said it introduces carbon to the weld and it will rust through time. All depends how long you want your everlasting stainless exhaust to last
