Water cooled tig torch

My mate Paul has come up trumps. He's sending me a water cooled torch he picked up surplus.

It's a Wp24 W which I believe is weldcraft. I will need to get a sheath for the hoses I think.

A water cooled 24 I hope you know they take smaller consumables than a 20 and I think of the top of my head they are 150a I could be wrong

Very useful torch to own. Probably not my first choice as a daily user torch but in those situations where getting a torch between some obstacles they are sometimes worth there weight in gold.
Wp24w torches can be rated up to around 180 amps it’s the gas cooled ones that are pretty useless above around 60-80 amps.
Been weld craft it’s gonna be a good one.
Consumables are dear for them and tiny little things. I suggest you buy a decent 6 point 4mm spanner for nipping up the collet body. It will take wp9/wp20 gas lenses too if you want to keep things standardised but the collets are a fraction shorter and with a wp9 lens the head is no longer as compact.

I just looked up this torch and it says 180 amps DC and 150 amps AC. It isn't a lot considering I'd be doing aluminium quite a lot. But it will be another tool in the cupboard and I'm getting it for nothing so I am not complaining. If the consumables are expensive and the current is not really that high then maybe that is why it was got rid of; someone bought the wrong thing.

Can someone in the know please point me to where I can get consumables for this as I don't want to waste time and money buying the wrong thing.

Edit:- I made a mistake, it seems the maximum current on AC is 115A. So not that much, but at least I will have a torch that is compact. And it gives me an excuse to make a cooler...

Is this the type I would need? The collets look a lot shorter, as mentioned above by Richard. I was also wondering if it would be possible to cut down a "standard" length collet?

Hi Carl. I’m surprised it’s 115 amps on ac. Mines a binzel version of it which probably isn’t as posh or expensive as a weldcraft and I’m sure it’s 150 ac 180 dc as you first said. I’ve certainly pushed it well above 115
I would look at consumables from a welding supplier and buy good ones Personally. Big cheap sets like that are hit and miss

Thanks for the info regarding the current capacity of the torch. I wasn't going to buy those consumables, it was more to show the picture to see if they are the right size. I prefer to buy from known good suppliers as I think it is false economy to do otherwise.

They look right from the pictures Carl. Like I say the lenses can be wp9 or wp24. It’s the white insulation ring and collets that are different. I just cut 3mm off the back of a standard collet when I fitted a lens to mine.

It’s perfectly usable within there limits.
They are very comfortable to hold and use.
3-4mm aluminium is the Max I’ll dare take mine but mine only comes out when I need it so life is pretty easy on it.
