Just picked this up of flea bay

Its mad LOL

It got a pump to pump the water around, but it is also fitted with a adjustable termostat and a fridge type cooler.

when the water gets to what ever the thermostat is set to, in kicks the fridge and cools the water.

to make things even better, they only asked for £30 cash,
and gave me a air compressa filter system.
they were a compony that was closing down and just wanted rid of things.

Question= do mig/tig/spotwelder type water cooler, do they have the fridge type set up in them, or are they just a fan and a rad????????????????

When I chatted with a supplier, the proper units have a refridgeration unit in them to cool the water, as simply recirculating it just pumps warm water back to the torch as it doesnt have enough time to cool unless the tank is massive.

Or you weld another fitting near the bottom of the tank and attach it to a cold tap and have an overflow valve off the top to remove the warmer water !!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but it is kind of related.

Is it possible to rip out the unit from a bottled water chiller/cooler and implement that into a homemade torch cooling system? I dont know how the bottled water chillers work, so it is a stab in the dark. I only ask as I have seen them on ebay for £30 - £40.

Thats probably ideal. Shame its collection only. What search query did you use to get that up?

just use line cooler or beer line cooler

these coolers have a water tank and often with multiple stainless coils running through them so your coolant / beer would run through those coils, thats how they get the guinnes extra cold it just goes through 2 coils instead of one

i could have had three of these units totally free a couple of months back but i think they have been binned now i didnt know anyone that wanted them

Here are a few photos of the one I bought on flea bay.
I should have taken a few before I started stripping it, never mind.
This is the water container with the stainless steel tubing from the refridgurator

This is the fridge part of the cooler

This is the pump laying on its side, the propella causes a swerring in the tank and directs the water to the pump opening

The pump sat ruthley were it goes

so why are you stripping it all you had to do was connect the welder to the pump in and outlet and away you go

But knowlage is a good thing.
Having had a look at how it works, I may well change the thermostat.
I want to be able to set it to what I want it to do.

No,
just took the cover off, then the thermostate, pump and a cover plate that covered the top of the water tank.

The coils would have been attached to the fridge part, full of gas so best left alone.

in that case what you have is

imagine a bar in a pub and all the different beers coming from the cellar in nylon tubing lets say 10 of them they are bundled together with 2 more and then wrapped in insulation the extra 2 are joined at the furthest point and then connected to the cooler you have and that cooler continuasly pumps cold water along the bar and back keeping the beer in the lines cold, without it the first pint or 2 would become warm just sat there, so you have the perfect cooler for a tig

if you want to control the temp then you need to do it by restricting the flow not by adjusting the compressor cut in, if you do it by the compressor it wont cope with a sudden change in temp.

remember these units wont just work as soon as you switch them on, like a fridge they need time to cool liquid down first
