Water feature

Late last summer I was asked to make a large water feature using a treble clef 2.5m tall as the motif.
Well after a lot of headscratching and chopping about I finally got it delivered today.
Two halves cut out of 1.6mm mild steel sheet.

An awful lot of tacking

And a skip load of welding with some clever internal structuring

Led to a strong well balanced structure

A coat of rusting paint and it was done

Delivered today.
One happy creator and one happy customer

Cheers guys. I was delighted with it
I spent an eternity stressing about how the water would behave fitted a bunch of waste of space plumbing tanks and taps internally.
In the end there is a reservoir at the top with two 3mm slots and one tap.
I was stunned by the way the water finds it's way around the structure and flows around the surface.

The balance was done by feel and by eye. I like things to balance naturally.
I have been caught on security camera with my son putting detergent in a fountain.
Naughty and stupid but he had to be bought up right.

Impressive work and nice finish, do you put the rust pant straight onto bare metal or do you use some kind of primer coat first ?

Paint goes on the metal after a good clean.
It's a two part mix, so mix, apply then leave overnight to cure then rub it down to expose whatever it is that rusts. Iron powder?
Then apply an actuator I reckon Ammonium Chloride and it goes bright orange in about 12 hours
