Water in the compressor

Hello.

I have s small 8 bar 6 liter silent compressor. I forgot to purge the water 2 weeks ago and today when I did it I found a little bit of brown water.

Is that dangerous?

no its only surface rust in the tank. they all go rusty

Mine only gets used on an occasional basis & gets drained on an even more occasional basis, unless you are using on an every day basis, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

one of the places I work only drains the compressor when theres water running out of the air tools ,,,, then they wonder why I wont plug in my stuff ....

Buy an automatic drain, fit, forget.

Anually, sometimes less, half a pint, it's a big 3 phase one.

Did one the other day for a farmer. He didn’t know you had to. Filled a 20l plastic drum

Apparently I saved them some money because they thought the nut gun was ********, rather than icing up!

I wouldn't drink it myself.

If you're not using it much take the valve out and put it somewhere safe.
Haven't used mine for years now cause I can't find the valve.

Working at Jaguar yachts back in the day, yard was all air tools, air provided by a big Ingersoll rand V twin on a 300 ltr tank, one day air tools started gurgling water. I asked "When was the last time anyone drained the tank?" Blank incomprehension was the reply. I opened the drain after a struggle & it flooded the yard. It was full to the brim.

This is one of the rare times of the year when I do mine daily.

Direct drive compressor won't start with a pressurised tank in the cold!

Seem to recall it was at least a weekly task at the last place to drain the tanks, and daily to open the drain cocks at the base of each drop from the ring main.

I've had to point out to one our main pneumatic suppliers, and more often to fellow designers, they've designed a mounting for air tanks that puts the drain on the side, not the bottom. Same for blow-off valves, that aren't rated for liquids . . .

One day I will get round to fitting the auto-drain kits I bought several years ago to both my main compressors.
