Water seperator - 100+ cfm

Hi. Just about to purchase a 130 cfm screw compressor for a new project but.... need to remove water. With the compressor running at least 12 hours per day a fair amount of condensate will be produced.

Dont need a dryer but what type of seperator should I be looking at?

for a cheep crude separator ive been useing a spin on separator filer and houseing off a dead van mounted screw unit, for its size and cost ( been free ) its very effective what would have been the oil return pipe now has a mig tip wedged in it, it dosent loose that much air but a lot of moisture comes out with what air it dose vent

well its ether std issue swirly roundey filter traps just like small ones that get used on home compressors just bigger. possobly a condensate trap tank first with an autodrain on it but that lot chould get quite warm at 130 cfm so the air wont be that dry

Good morning gents. My two cents. Just because some one or some paperwork says no refrigerated drier needed, doesn't mean it would not be usefull, all depends upon the application. What you can get away with on short operational bursts doesn't mean it will work 100% of the time reliably. Reliability for me is the name of the game and wouldn't be without a refrigerated drier. I have three. Ah you would also need inlet air filters to the dryers if you decide to go down that path.

what size is the airline to it and whats its consumption cfm at any one point

even with a couple of water separators the air would be coming through hot after a few minutes and would just bypass the separators . only way if u wanted totally dry air would be radiator fan unit and a refrigeration air dryer after it

i have a small referant dryer in the workshop to be fair most of the air dosent go through it ( a lot more really should but it takefor plasma ect s about 15 minutes to really start working so no point ) but for die grinders ect when doing cyl heads. some days it pulls a shocking amount of water out of what you'd think was quite dry air, nothing at all in the std water traps but there will be a puddel by the regerated dryer.

id think if your robot has pnumatic cyls they would be prim for water to drop out and cause gunge to form over time, it'll all come don to £££ but if the machenes and compressor were a big spend and will be doing lots of work a bit more spend for sake of reliablity may well be a good investment

Previous company I worked for used lots of compressed air in the machine measurement and control system, air dryer had some form of problem that wasn't picked up quickly and it caused a whole load of grief as moisture entered the system. A refrigerated dryer would seem to be a must for the type of equipment you are going to fit.
