Waterproof primer ?

Hi, I need to do body repairs and keep the car on the road and gradually work my way around the car leaving the prepared panels in primer ready for a respray. Am i right in thinking cellulose primer filler is not waterproof and could lead to defects in the finished paint?

yes thats right

either use your celly primer and spray on some rattle can gloss to keep the rain out , then sand it off when your ready to finish the paintwork

or try some epoxy primer , its way more durable and will provide a lasting finish

Thanks, can I paint cellulose over 2 pack epoxy primer?

Thanks for your replies steveo, have I got it correct that if I choose epoxy primer I need breathing equipment with a seperate air supply, but would be ok with a mask for cellulose.

Not just me Steve, it's very common to roller any primer in bodyshops these days, it's easy to roller just add a little extra thinner
Epoxy primer is the only waterproof primer I know of.

So to be clear then, being a complete novice with 2 pack paint, if I use 2 pack epoxy primer and roller it on(not spray) is it not necessary to use an air fed mask, a regular carbon filter type would be sufficient.

yes thats right , wear some gloves too

theres also jotun primer thats non iso , its a boat primer but several of us use it for home diy car repairs , sprays well with a bit of thinners

It is quite common to 'roll and tip' 2 pack on boats. The sniff is only solvent, where as spray is the full mix of paint. I did some International 2 pk a while back and the Int. paper work said it was fine to brush or roll, but spraying required the complete air breathing kit.

BH's etchweld stuff is weatherproof, i've use it to protect steel sheet that's stored outside before use.
