Weld advice

Lincoln PowerMig 180c
25/75 argon mix
.025 wire
2.35mm metal thickness
Prepped with 45 degree taper on each edge for better penetration

Seem to be getting an excess build up of weld, what is the usual reason for this? I think I added a bit more wire speed for the weld on the right and it seemed to penetrate better on the other side.

Once ground back seem very porous

Thoughts ?

Looks like the weld was contaminated, it needs to be cleaned more.

Gas flow should be about 10LPM, 18 is more than needed and will waste gas and can cause problems.

Attempt 2

Found some metal similar size this was 2.5mm, and dialed in the approriate settings (5 G). Welds didn't build up like last time, think I had the WFS too high. Have yet to try with the gas back at around 10L/min. I'll have another go with it set at that, and I think maybe a little more heat and allow for a little gap the whole way along to help penetration, Thoughts?
