Been doing a lot of Aly & Galv welding and the fumes are bloody awful

Can anybody comment on this kit please?

The Esab/Nederman version is good.
Some of the decision will come down to your preference of standard headshield, what do you use normally?

Could local extraction and disposable masks be an option?

We run a couple of those at work and seem to do the job well,we tend to have a couple of spare batteries as we bench weld for quite long periods and battery life is reasonable but not quite enough for long stints.

My current mask is an Esab Eyetech II, disposable masks are an option but LEV isn't as I'm not always welding in the same place.

Im not sure about the EyetechII, but you could retrofit the air packs onto the older ones. Just buy the filter unit, duct and face seals.
All easily removed when you didnt want to use it aswell.

Anyone know if that can be done on the EyetechII ?

Esab do some high capacity batteries aswell as the standard, if thats an issue.

We use air-feds on the ordinary esab eyetech at work, but we don't have any eyetech II buckets.
I retro-fitted an air-fed onto a Parweld auto recently - bought the air-fed from forum member (MigMag). It was very easy to do - bit of self adhesive velcro and a couple of cable ties and all ok.

Edit: Checked the Esab website - the Eyetech II can be combined with an air-fed, details here.

Galv fumes = very very bad, ordinary welding fumes still quite bad. From what research I did with Mig and steel it is the size of the particles that is a large part of the problem. I also wonder about ozone, anybody got any ideas on that one?

I use a speedglas mask with an Adflo air filter. Great piece of kit.
It also stops my poxy reading/welding glasses steaming as well which is a great help.

The adflo has a huge battery that straps on your back lasts for 8 hours, so I charge it every now and again. With the filter being strapped on your back you do have to watch what you eat though. I can remember the first time I produced a hungover egg butty chuff. Not nice.

Down in regional skippy side we tend to utilise a ASp3 resiritory half face mask. much cheaper can get replacement parts any where. pain in the back side at first but much better advice than a glass of milk?

i recently picked up a 3m dust master with a auto darkening head top. ive used it a couple of times and works perfect.

Silly ??? but when we weld in confind spaces we use an old vacume cleaner? vacume cleaner outlet by the door and extend the tube/pipe to by the welding add put a ally/steel funnel in the end ,, Seems to suck all the rubbish out of your face
