I may have a go at making a model man, completely from weld, obviously will have to use some bar to weld onto, but all of his detail will be done in weld, then maybe ground off, maybe 6-12" tall.
There's a guy that does that sort of thing laying weld on top of weld - the human figures look very cool, and the technique covered on the methodology page: http://www.artinsteel.co.uk/
Think he came into trouble with duty cycle and had to upgrade his welder after the first few.
Sounds like a very cool project. Could be expensive in gas and wire (and electricity)
That is very interesting, I may have a play next week, also have a go at maybe just making a hand or simmilar aswell. I will ask my mate when he gets back from Europe in a few weeks if I can photo the mask he made, he used the overwelding technique, over scroll work, it is quite good.
I Quit fancied making a lifesize man from scrap, that we have in a large box at the moment, then when we get another heap of scrap add to the man, over time getting a sculpture, and it would only have scrap value plus a bit of mig wire!
In september we have an interesting job, to make some very large bugs 1 -2 metres each for a local school, it should be really good to do!
Not quite what you are thing of, but I welded all the test pieces I had been doing to make a little man and a dog. My mind starts to go funny after 4 hours in a little booth, had to have some company
There's a garden centre close to Highbridge in Somerset and the last time i had a walk around there was a full size replica of ' The Predator ' as in Alien and Predator, this monster was about 7' tall and constructed of mostly motorcycle type chain plus assorted nuts and bolts, the dreadlocks were stunning made out of this chain it really is bloody awesome !
Anyone else seen it ?
