Weld nut advice

Hi All,
When in the past I have had need to use welded in nuts, I have usually just used ordinary nuts. Getting these completely central to the hole can be problematic & sometimes Ive had bolts bind.
Needing to use weld nuts again, this time I decided to buy some. However, having received them I am somewhat confused about how they should be installed.
I imagined the weld nuts would have a a boss on one end to fit in an enlarged hole (on one side) guaranteeing the bolt would be centred correctly but the nuts that arrived have 4 dimples on the other end.
What are the 4 “pegs” on the other end end for? am I about to install these weld nuts the wrong way round.

The 4 stand off's are for spot welding pressure on nut then blast of lecy job done, bit like spot welding
Some nuts have return\shoulder to locate, other tooling has mandrill that goes through thread as locator it is insulated from actual welding current so no damage to thread

I’ve seen those held in place with a strap, so the nut can ‘wiggle’ about. I have also seen them, where the 4 tips are used for spot welding.

the ones for welding are usually on a small plate with holes in for pool welding

depending on how thick the material you putting the nut on would it be feasible to drill a suitable size hole and press a normal nut in

can always add a blob to hold it afterwards if you want it fixed more firmly

if you are not doing that many just put a bolt through the hole and spin the nut down to hold it whilst you weld, if you use a countersunk head bolt it would self centre, again you would need sufficient thickness for this

These are the ones I've used previously, won't be suitable for every application but were spot on for what I needed.

i only done this a few times but i just bolted it in place tacked couple of times removed the bolt then give it what for with the mig (i did at one point near melt the nut so welded and stop weld let cool a bit weld again

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere, the four stand-offs can create a useful gap to aid penetration for welding, Sounds plausible to me,

I machined up an ‘alignment tool’. One in a few sizes. The shoulder is 2mm just because that’s what material I was using it on. I buy self colour nuts to weld on. M12 in pic.

Started installing them using the.shouldered end, strangely the shoulder is 10.5 mm on an M6 thread. Reduced them to 10mm on the lathe & then fitted nicely in a 10mm hole.
