Weld-on ground stud options

Hi everyone, I'm starting to wire up some race cars and was wondering about weld-on ground stud options when they are needed. I have one coming where the some of the grounding points have been ground off. All unused brackets, tangs, bolts, etc have been removed and these went with them.

I'd be interested in seeing professional looking and reliable options that are used. What do you use for ground studs?

Simple solutions would be a bolt shoved through from behind or a deep nut but BMW have this weld-on earth pin

I where poss I take the battery earth back to the starter body then a wire 1/2 the size back to the body......
never needed a weld on lug in 50 years......

Just serch for "spot weld stud M8" (or whatever size you want)

These are the type fitted in the factory on a lot of stuff although I have seen plenty of cars that use a thread forming screw and some of the hand built higher end stuff (audi rs6 etc.) use the rivet studs mentioned above.

The spot weld studs are available in most diameters and lengths. If you can get to the backside of the panel you can drill a hole a bit smaller than the stud, hold it over the hole and fill with the mig.
Or you can hold in place and run the tig around the front side of it.
Or if you have got more than a few to do the proper spot guns are available cheaply.

That's the better way to do it on most cars, the fewer the earth points the better.

On a race car you are pretty likely to crash it at some stage and you want quick and easy to change so you would normally have at least 4 looms, one for each corner of the car, probably a couple of multi plugs and an earth point on each one although here are about as many ways of doing it as there are teams racing.

Why not weld a stainless bolt on wherever needed or simply drill a hole & use 2 washers & a nut to attach it, adding paint or sticky grease to stop corrosion.
