Welding a coin

Hi

I needed to fill a hole a little smaller than a penny so I found one of them new steel penny and welded it in the car. I made sure I did not weld on the queens head but am I being bad welding coins in to fill holes? I know people roll coins so I do think its too bad, also I don't really care that much but I would just like to know.

I would have used other metal but the hole was small and there was 3 other layers with the same size hole in behind. Its not a critical area, just needed to fill a old water drain hole, oh and the coin was the perfect size

Mate brought his one and only key to his van the other day. The ford Stealer wanted daft money circa 100quid to replace it. I charged him errrr 2p and a pint

I finally got written confirmation from the Treasury Department that I am ok using them, see thread in link above. As long as the weld can be ground/filed off and leave the coin removeable.

Apparently not, I was expecting this one.
The official line that I was welding onto the coin, not destroying or melting it down. As such under section whatever it was of the whatever it was act of 1972 (I have it on headed paper from Them) I do not need a licence to do this. I asked about defacing Mrs Queen and it dd not seem to be a problem

of couse I a not an authority on this one. I admit I am looking forwards to some grumpy old Royalist challenging me at an exhibition and being able to wave my fancy letter at him (it will have to be a Him, She would never behave so ridiculously).

Not RKDE, in future try and leave the face of the coin showing in the repair, years down the line it might make somebody laugh out loud.

I looks like the rules/law has changed, I remember a company "colouring" coins with coloured glaze. The guy said it was OK, so long as the coin could be returned to it's original state

The queens head is on the inside I will try and get a snap if I can not sure I will be able to file the coin back to it original state thats going to be some real bench work to file the car off the coin and remove all that weld If I can I will also leave a couple facing out so there will be a chance it can be seen if the car is really inspected

someones having a laugh with him surley you can get transponder keys cut for 15 quid or non transponder 10 quid or less however ford dealers do want around 70 quid to program them.

so take note everyone with a red ford key thats the master key and it can be used to program new keys

Although the new steel pennies are handy for welding, they dont flatten like the old copper ones under a Blackpool tram...

I have a pile of steel and copper ones, the copper ones are good for welding onto and removing for small holes where the steels make a full hole replacement

Another thing, if you buy a second hand ford, make sure you get 2 full size chipped keys. My mate got 1 key which doesn't appear to be the master key and another key with just a small plastic piece to turn the metal part of it and no chip. To get a new key coded was silly money.

If you have 2 full, fully chipped keys, you can get others cut for under a tenner and code them yourself using the car ignition.
