Welding bench

Hello can anyone help, I'm looking for a top for my bench,ideally approx 2x3 ft steel plate around 10 mm thick. Was thinking of taking it on and off my existing work bench. Would have liked a dedicated welding bench but don't have the space. In or around the Wolverhampton area .

With a bit of careful design for a bench that size you can have it folding down from a wall with swing out box section legs, I did the same with a prototype wooden one to see if the idea was ok and it was... ashamed to say I am still using the prototype and not got round to making a steel one

It has come in real handy for the last 3 years or so, I use it for anything I need to work on/assemble/disassemble.

Obviously can't belt lumps out of things with a big hammer but it was not designed for that purpose.

I can weld up a 3ft gate on it easily and may get around to making the actual steel one but there again..may not

Taking on and off your bench?

A bit of plate the size you describe would be 40-50kg...

Yeah was just thinking it might give me a hernia! Think I could get away with around 5mm

Very clever, I did think of doing something similar but there's not a lot of room to play with as I had cut my existing bench then weld it back up to get to fit against the back wall!

My bench is 3mm steel with 30x30 box frame.
