Welding goggle for the Magoo`s

Been using cheaters in my arc helmet for a few years now but have always struggled with the gas welding goggles.

Had a bit of a brainwave and it works really well I have been using these led headset magnifiers for a few years now for rebuilding tricky stuff like chainsaw carbs, they come with several different lenses of different strengths. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Led-Head...epid=0&hash=item3d9a2ecde7:g:TncAAOSwi-BeYeiP

Anyway the lens fit inside the uvex welding goggle an absolute treat, so now use them all the time for gas welding,cutting or brazing.

I use a Donegan head magnifier they have ground glass lenses. only use it for fine work cos there 56 quid .those will be quite good for general close work and no great loss id they get scratched

Whilst on about carbs have you fitted any Walbro Spiral metering diaphragms? An upgrade from the old rubber ones

Means it's coming form China, only way of telling nowadays. Fine if you are ok with waiting, you might find the same from a UK outlet but will be more expensive

The glasses are brilliant for working on carbs Mr Mac and even better now the lenses have a second use, the led lights also make up for poor worklight/shadows. Not heard of the new spiral kits but just clocked a video on youtube and they have to be worth trying, thanks for the heads up

not much use for welding, but for the rebuilding of smaller stuff, carbs, etc these are ace. I'm not quite at the point of needing those fancy magnifying specs, (probably not long now though) but what I'm finding now though is that I need way more light than before, even to the point of putting a small head torch on the front of my welding lids... that makes a big difference

I've tried and failed to find the source, but I recall reading that the extra light required is not just a multiple such as 2 or 3 times but a full order of magnitude - 10 times!

My challenge is that my prescription is so very different for each eye so the cheap cheaters or pound shop reading glasses won't work.
I tried buying a pair of 1.5 and 3 dioptre(?) pound shop glasses and using one lens from each, but it was too much of a bodge.

I find that the much reduced depth of field is as much of an aging problem as the loss of ability to focus, as the latter can be correct with lenses but not the former. I don't have a solution for that other than wait for a visit from offspring.

Yup - hence new 10W LED bedside reading lights! I swear they have a higher light output than the headlights on my first car!

I emailed Walbro to find out who in the UK stocks the spiral diaphragms. Got a very quick reply to be told it’s a company called Rowenamotors, I’ve just fired them an email too.
