A friend of mine does this in his unit, charges £150 for 5 evenings at 2 hours each night 7pm to 9pm, advertises in the local paper, as "Introduction to welding"
Normally gets a small group of about 6, which is a nice little earner for xmas

Does that work? I'm not trying to suggest it's a bad idea or anything(in fact I might be tempted to do it myself if I could get a semblance of order in the black hole of calcutta I call a workshop), just not wanting to risk getting sued.
ye me...im only 76 miles away. I have a guy from Aberdeen interested in a weekend course which i could do if i get 2 or 3 interested. There is a nice country pub/hotel across the road for accommodation.

My mate does a quick induction goes though all the health and safety aspects, They need to bring their own Helmets, and steel toecaps but he provides basic PPE, and he gets them to sign a waiver, Apparenetly this is the 3rd year he does it and he's had nothing but praise.
Now you need to remember what kind of people come to evening course like this, they are people who want to work in the industry and have already a good understanding of what to expect.
He never gets a complete numpty who hasn't got a clue what the inside of a workshop looks like.
He said last year he got them to start welding railings for a job he was doing

Shirazman, PM me when you decide on a date and price. The in-laws live 1 an a half hours drive away so I'm used to such journeys and would happily travel each day.
I don't however work in the welding industry nor do I plan too! but I do want to learn to weld properly so I can hobby fab and fix my land rover, would your course be able to cater for the less advanced folk?

What kind of boilers? One of my less realistic ambitions is to build a steam launch.

yes thats why I thought of doing a weekend 2 day course. You will never learn it all but ideal for someone like yourself doing hobby welding. If I get 2 people wanting to book a 2 day course I will get it set up soon
At the moment mild and stainless steel multifuel boilers and ive done a lot of distillery pressure pipe work. Quite sure if you get me the plans I could make the boiler for you. Steam boilers are all heat exchangers am I right in saying?
