Welding rod identification

I was given two metal boxes of these rods, they dont seem to like AC, they wouldn't an hold arc or would stick.

The box is marked:
METRODE
12CrM0V.B
size: 3.2mm
Current: 110-140

Chrome molybdenum by the look of them, probably will run on AC but you may need 80 volt open circuit to use them, a buzz box wont do it, many pro sets, oxfords etc. have an optional higher voltage connection for running special electrodes,

Yeah that's them.

It was a buzz box I tried them on. I got an oxford now so I'll try them on 80v.

What's there application?

they are a specialist rod for CrMo steels. I havent read the datasheet so Im not entriely sure of the specifics but usually this sort of steel is used in power stations and hardly anywhere else.
The steel is designed to withstand high temperstures so at room temperatures it is relatively brittle and prone to cracking.

I dont think I'm going have any use for them, all my works mild steel and occasionally stainless steel.

I dont know enough about welders/welding to know what this would achieve, but I know enough not to try it!!
