welding vertical up

was welding vertical up at the weekend

welding 3.5mm plate to prob 3.5mm 1.5" pipe @ 80amps 3.2mm electrode DCEN with an inverter buzzbox

what amps would everyone use for this ? 80 seemed a bit hot to me as puddle kept dripping

I would go down a rod size if you can and maybe drop a wee bit of current if you like, but keeping the pool where+how you want it is the art of the vertical up weld. It seems like you may not be weaving enough or your rod angle could be wrong. Post a pic? Often the slag will look a bit drippy but the weld below is sweet.
