c couplings look for compressed air supplier on google there only a few quid each and come in all bore sizes

They r called "claw" fittings. Tool hire shops will stock them. The last place I was in was Pirtek hose people they stock em

I have seen them also in Brabbin & Rudd if there is not a depot near you they are an engineers suppliers

I think you will find the incorrect description has nothing to do with the city of Chicago, and everything to do with the company called Chicago Pneumatics.

p.s probs wont going to pirtek they charged me 80p per cable tie last time I went to get a hose done!

They always used to be called McDonald couplings.

Claw connection is the correct term for them, McDonald couplings are another similar air connection Gordon but are more slimline in section.

Thank you Sean, The couplings we used at I.C.I were always stocked as McDonald Couplings, they were quite chunky made from cast brass with the rubber sealing insert in each one.

See if you have an Arco branch near you, they will have all that you need. The hose that is normally used with those couplings is available in 2 different specs, black 150 psi and yellow 300 psi, typically 3/4" and 15.2 mtr or 50 ft lengths. The fittings are intended to be installed with bolted clamps.
You can get the whole assembly with fittings installed for £30 on ebay though ! Possibly even less if you look on there a bit more.

I have about 10 clamps but am looking for one with a pipe thread so I can put a valve between it and the compressor it that makes sense.

There is a version of the coupling with a taper BSP thread instead of the usual hose tail, so you would screw that into your valve and then attach the hose.
10:1 that supplier on ebay would have it in stock.
