You need MAPP gas and that will barely braze. LPG is not hot enough.

Oxy/LP will work. Oxy/MAP will work better.

will mapp work on the same hose and regulator that is supplied with the torch and where can I buy mapp????

MAPP is in disposables here, have no idea what is available over there.

It is ok for small stuff, but the entire piece will be heated up as the torch is not much hotter than the brazing temp. Not something I would want to do.

I use an oxy/LPG setup for brazing.

I just brazed a HSS cutting bit on a boring bar using propane. I have a torch that has a 6" mixing chamber, not like the simple ones you normally see.

I was too lazy to get the oxy/LP setup and was out of MAPP gas. So, used the propane torch. Was doable, but took a long time to heat.

The bar was 1/4" in diameter. Brazed area was 3/16" square.

MAPP gas here is the same thread as the disposable propane cans. It is expensive, but nice to have.

Yes you can 'braze' with Propane, but it depends on what you want to do? It is all a question of heat input, not so important is temperature. I have been able to do good bronze welds with Propane but it needs time and preparation. The item, a spade shaft in this case was set up on a brazing hearth and packed around with sections of Thermalite block to keep the heat in and the torch was a Seivet, the biggest rotary flame burner which is rated at around 20 Kw. Brought the lot up to a good red heat and the rod ran in a treat, using a standard Borax flux. I wrapped a bit of steel strip around the shaft for a bit of strength.

So, yes it can be done but you do need a decent torch, burner and a brazing hearth. Also consider what type of rods you want to use, mostly I use Easy Flo 2 or Sif Bronze. All done with Propane.

verry corect but not much cop if the heat needs localising and the job cant be brought to a brazing hearth. eg on vehicles or machinery or small delicate items. thats where oxy acetylene comes into its own . no need for shielding to raise the temperature and verry portable with localised flame

small jobs will be fine with propane torch .the brazing atachment on e bay will work well on an ark welder will give off intense heat there was a few posts on here about them a few month ago i sold mine to someone on here for 12 quid as i didnt need it as have got oxy acetylene

You might look at something like this.

I see MAPP canisters listed also. You might be able to find them locally. They are available most hardware or home centers places here.

heres a few torches the one on the left is a rothenberger quickfire it runs on map gas or calor propane. good points quick and easy great for heating things up mainly used by plumbers for soldering pipes bad part only one size nozzle available . the others are sievert propane torches good points there the best make . all size nozzles are available . one torch has twin taps with economiser lever great for saving gas using the larger nozzle bad part is there expensive best bought second hand for the safety police dont remind me it hasnt got a clip on the pipe
