I bought this 2nd hand comp today, but it had no details with it.
Has anyone got similar and can tell me the cfm? It's a honda 5.5hp engine, with what looks like a cast cylinder.
cheers
Well, I have a 3 HP compressor that is 14 cfm, and a 4 HP (?) that is around 21 CFM, both electric. So my guess would be a little higher than 14, but maybe there are more losses in the petrol version?
Petrol engines only get about 2/3 their rated HP. Probably less if started under load. You see the same compressor with a 5.5HP gas and 3hp electric.
That pump itself looks near identical to mine. It is about 10CFM FAD so probably 14CFM displacement (US compressors do not list displacement anywhere.)
Mine is 5HP electric. I say it is about 3HP actual. It is a common to put a bigger motor on here and only use half of it as most are advertised as HP.
You do know there was a class action suit won against all major gas (petrol) engine manufactures for exaggerating the HP? Now engines just spec displacement and torque.
Thanks, it does seem like a bargain. I linked it upto an electric 3hp one i have to give my pot blaster a bit more power.
I now have the pot running around 90psi with a 3mm tip, so i'm well happy with it.
The only problem is if i stop blasting for too long, the pressure rises very quickly and the electric comp knocks off around 115psi. Then when i start blasting again it wont kick in till it drops low again.
Can i adjust what pressure the elec comp kicks in at?
