What is this lathe part that fits in spindle

Came off my Colchester triumph 1960s , fits the chuck taper , threads and keyway

Thought it might be for drive dogs but they don't fit in the slots

Bit stuck after that drive dogs seemed.obvious untill they didn't fit unless it is made for another brand can't make out any markings on it

Faceplate of some description. Can have t slots for clamping or a means of driving lathe dogs when turning between centers. Wonder if that's what the slots are for?

Can't imagine any other use than driving dogs. Nice way of doing it. Better than a bolt sticking out of the faceplate

Intresting , these are the drive dogs that came with the lathe. See some of them have a right angle with bat sticking out others don't so I checked the right angle one and that did not fit in the notch however may be another way to do it I have never used these before.

Just means they are not the right dogs, drill and tap it fit a bolt

How can it not fit in the notch, unless the leg is wider than the notch, which it doesn't appear to be. Or, do you mean it's not reaching the notch?

I just offered the right angle bit and they didn't fit in the slot. May need to do a modification as said by mike to get them to turn as well as fitting the dogs that have no right angles.

As above, drive plate. Used for turning between centres. There are all manner of dogs you can use with the plate if the ones you have don't work then just modify them so they do.

Did you get a centre for the Spindle ? I think mine was missing.

Not sure , A few centres in the box but assumed they were for the tailstock, I remember fizzy telling me the taper on the spindle side was quite a weird one unfortunately not so common but worth checking.

Turning between centres via dogs ,produces the most accurate and consistent results.
