What paint for engine block & gearbox

Planning on painting my block and gearbox gloss black. As there's quite a few choices out there could someone suggest a good quality/ heavy duty one.

Found a thread but it only covers painting blocks with 2k and I don't have the equipment to paint with 2k that's why I was asking about other paints, I was planning on using an enamel. Just wanted to see if there was a brand that is a lot better than the others.

i used smoothrite enamel on mycar block and on the cylinders on my bike engine it stands up well

I have used hammerite bbq paint on one of my old track bikes and that held up well even after 15 laps of Silverstone and a low side off, but it didn't give the best finish.

I have had fair success with Halfords uht aerosol but have only tried the gloss red

i used halfords normal spray paint. just make sure you primer it first and laquer it. heres one i did earlier

Did the halfords paint hold up alright? Don't really want to be messing about priming and lacquering it I thought the brush / aerosol enamel paint was good enough to go onto a cleaned & prepped alloy block just not sure what brand to use

if its an ally block u would be best paint it with acid etch primer 1st then enamel topcoat otherwise it will just flake off sooner or later

You either need Epoxy primer or Etch for bare aluminium.

Will the acid etch be alright with the heat? Ordered some Por-15 engine enamel after reading quite a good reviews on another forum.

Yes it will be fine, at the end if the day Epoxy would be better, you can brush it if your concerned about spraying.
The only thing that really lasts and gives a good job is 2k, engines don't get as hot as you would imagine and although the shine will drop on most paints 2k will just stay the same as long as you buy decent stuff.
