What the compressor worth?

A mate has in his garage a 240v (13amp?) compressor. Its 110l, twin cylinder with a belt driven pump in blue.
Its probraly 15 years old and has been used daily.
The compressor started making horrible noises and it was discovered the bearing shells (big end?) had gone.

Its been sitting doing nothing for a while now and was wondering about making him an offer for it.

Im not sure what its worth. I was going to pop down to an engine building place and see if they can match up the shells

Im going to pop down later so will try and get some more info on the make etc.

10p per kilogram, that way if you can't fix it, weigh it in and you won't lose out.

you will need to cost a new pump. then take that off what you would pay for an equivalent pump.
The other what of looking at it is what is is worth to you and what is it worth to your mate.
is the receiver any good?
is the motor any good?
is the controller/switch any good?
is the regulator any good?

I went through that exercise once, far cheaper to buy a new complete compressor, ready built, tested & guarenteed.

Had a quick look tonight and its a 2.2 kw motor and the tank was made in 1985.
How do i check the things mentioned
is the receiver any good?
is the motor any good?
is the controller/switch any good?
is the regulator any good?

The motor spins fine, no odd noises from the bearings.
I wouldnt offer much. Whats scrap value? about £30 ?

Got to worth a punt at £30 but free is better a 110l paperweight is gonna take up some room. you could offer a case of beer
So motor appears ok. you would more than likey hear a duff bearing.
receiver = tank not rusty .I've got my brothers on loan and that was made in 1959. If its been industrial it mat have been checked.
I assume the motor ran via the controller/switch so that should be ok. It's going to be difficult to test the pressure cut off without the pump
new pump is gonna be at least £100, but thats a compressor for less than £150

The compressor has a ERP sticker on the side.
I was offered the compressor....£20....So i said yup.
I just need to fix it up.

Picked up the box of parts last night, i left the main compressor tank behind. It will get collected at some stage.
Anyways, ive noticed the crank will need to be re-ground as its badly scored. The I will need some oversive big end bearings. Most of the bolts look present and correct, but the proof will be when i bolt it back together.
Can you get compressor cranks re-ground?

Lets have plenty of pics of the rebuild.

You should be able to get the crank reground, get the new bearings first, it'd be a sod if you reground to -20 and could only get -10 shells.

If you can't get proper shells a decent engineering firm should be able to get a close match, grind the crank and perhaps machine the big end in the conrod to suit the shells.

We did this to fit Landrover shells to Riley engines.

Yes get a quote for bearings first , I got quoted £80 for shell bearings for my Broomwade and that was for one journal only, so £160 for both not really worth it then.

I need to do some visiting of the engineering places first before i decide what im going to do with it. If i can get the re-grind done for a good price it will be a goer.
Ive not told the Wife yet that ive got a bigger compressor....It may live in a mates garage under out work bench...
Or the other option is, to keep the compressor in a box outside the shed.

Having Emailed ERP the compressor makers and a few email exchanges later it appears that the model i have is ceased. no more and spares are zilch.
The option i have from ERP is to buy a new pump. £100 plus vat and del. It will mean drilling out the base plate to take the pump.
Time to visit a few engineering places to see what they can do. It would be nice to get the old one up and running again.

A new pump would be £186 unless you can get the old one re-shelled, but if the crankshaft oval or scored get it clocked up first before spending money on it.
