Wheeled strimmer

Anyone have experience of one? Seen a 6 hp job with a Tecumseh engine,looks like tricky height control but I can add some skids,the cutting cords are just short strips,threaded through holes in the hub.
I don’t like using a shoulder strimmer btw. This one looks a nice practical mc.

i have a petrol strimmer and dont like using it ,when i get round to it going to fit a pair of wheels to push it round easy enough to make the bracket and mount them to the pole

These wheeled strimmers are very good little machines, need to keep the skirts in good order because they will launch stones/cr4p straight at your shins. Fitted a home grown chain/swipe to the one I had instead of cord and used old conveyor belt rubber in the place of the flimsy skirts they come with.

Oregon do a grey toothed cord for heavy duty strimmers it's about 6mm thick. Brilliant stuff you can cut all day with one length.

I have an Ariens American made one. It is quite useful, but the cord doesn't last long if you hit brambles or rushes which ever cord I've tried,, and despite large diameter wheels it becomes hard work pushing it for long if the ground isn't smooth and level. Have wondered about fitting a metal blade to it.

Had a wheeled Husqvarna one with 50 cm solid rubber tyres. Cost around £750 + vat in 1997
I had stainless steel whips on it most of the time for light brush or I could us one of two brush cutters on it .
It was used to clean up and maintain 1.5 acres of brambles & scrub , got it so I could put my big ride on mower over the land with out any fear of damage to it .. turning it into useable grass land & gardens in three years . My verdict .... it's a magic bit of kit if looked after & kept clean .

made my own outta junk.....eng is a 40 year old Honda, tool bag is an old seat air bag....good on fuel.....usually a good hour n half run time.....
after that I've had enough for one day.....74 years old now....
wanted/needed one badly when lived in France....The Husky equiv was a 1000 euros plus tax.....hence my abortion....
Its nearly 20 years old now, still starts n runs great.....had plenty of offers for it....hahaha....
I use the super duty/commercial qual 5mm plastic line......eats everything except rocks.....

We have a wheeled one down the yacht club, similar to a rotary mower but with a big disc on it with two cutting segments, works well bearing in mind its used over hardcore landfill & tends to hit rocks & bits of iron in the grass.
I would not use chain flails on any strimmer as the risk is that if / when the chain breaks a link or more can fly off. For handheld strimmer use they were banned by the Hse several years ago after a young guy was killed up near Barrow. A gang were clearing a road bank, chain link came off his mates strimmer & hit him in the back of his neck/ base of skull. He was killed instantly.

This has been in the back of my mind for a bit. Yours looks to be 1:1 ratio engine:'rotor' Any thoughts on that? I have 4.5 and 5.5 Hondas spare, both little used. Also a 10hp B&S.

You don't need extra skids they would get caught. On most of them the cap under the rotor is on a bearing and acts a a skid. Even if fixed to the shaft it will still act as a skid

Remember that well, it was at the top of the dock road and dad worked for the docks board at the time

I was strimming rough ground at my place and hit a short length of rusty barbed wire that was propelled so fast at me I'd rank it as the second worst thing I've ever been hit with. The momentary pain was intense to say the least!

For anyone wondering, the worst impact was getting hit in the balls by a long length of bungee rope when messing about with my kids. They laughed. It hurt for weeks!

I bought it yesterday,pretty pleased,at least it worked on wet tussocky grass,got it for £175,yes it has the adjustment for skewing the axle either side. I love the easy fitting of cord. I think the screen needs rotating.
