That is an old one. You'd probably have to try a Devilbiss dealer and ask if they have one. I'd imagine you'd be looking at a complete replacement. They aren't too expensive.
Mr Hippo - We don't normally use bits from fish tanks and cookers for safety critical things. Fair old risk of permament damage and death from some paints, so silly to mess around.
Malcolm, you are right in principle, but isn't this filter, filtering the air supplied from the pump to the mask? It's not filtering out the atmosphere in which the hazardous spray is being produced. It is technically a nuisance odour filter. There should be a trap for water and condensate from the compressor lubricant. Your best point of reference is probably ARCO. It may well be that these are not that expensive especially if you push them for a bit of discount. The external fitting are probably std.
There does seem to be a tendency for some forum members to cut corners to save a few quid. The point I would like to make is it's not sensible to cut corners with breathing equipment especially if using something as damaging as 2K.
The carbon filter is likely to be a finer filter than normally specified for the final filter on the airline, thus worthwhile to have, and unlikely to be a direct replacement for a cooker hood filter even if that has a similar name. However, every cost cutter is also an expert and will know better than the manufacturers (who after all are only in it to make a few quid).
Agreed Malcolm. I wasn't advocating cutting corners, indeed the opposite. I was simply pointing out that the hazard was perhaps not quite as you described. The issue comes from the compressor air, not the paint in the atmosphere. No matter how dirty the breathing air is, it will still pressurise the face-piece keeping the outside - well, out. But if the oil vapor in the airline is inhaled, there could be some serious implications. There can be significant quantities of bacteria in there too. I don't think that a DIY refill is good enough.
The problem is that high street sheds charge vastly inflated prices for safety equipment which puts people off, including me. If you go to a local supplier you will be amazed at how much cheaper they are. Trust me, I know I'm the safety manager for a household name. And a Chartered Safety Practitioner too.
Please either get a replacement filter if you can or buy a new unit.
I went to the local paint supplier today, and they didn't sell any replacement filters, All they had was one air fed mask for sale. They also told me to get in contact with the main supplier, which I've just finished sending an emailing to.
This is the mask that I have it's a DevilBiss MPV 454 Full AirFed.
Could I perhaps just use a new air filter and reulator unit that comes on the new air fed masks?
that mask looks as though it has all the foam seals missing needed to work, the mask should seal against your face all the way around also the pipe that feeds the air to you is not the original
