Which Compressor for a 12.4 CFM Spray Gun?

Hi, I'm currently in the process of looking for a suitable compressor and need some recommendations in terms of which one compressor/tank size would be suitable for car respray(electric compressor to work from house socket or petrol).
I would need it to supply my Devilbiss spray gun which demands 12.4 CFM @ 2BAR.
There is the theory that at lower psi the CFM increases (e.g. 10CFM @90, 12.4@45), therefore could I get away with using a compressor providing 10 CFM free air delivery for my 12.4 CFM gun or is this a bit ambitious?
If anyone has some suggestions or what other options there are available, that would be great as I need a compressor ASAP!

Well the biggest comp you can get on a 1ph mains, is a Clarke SE, (AFAIK) have a look on the Machine Mart site. Rated @ 19cfm.

I doubt it will cope though (I have one)

during my car painting, i found your not spraying constantly. So how i got around the lack of CFM is by having a largish tank (150 litres).The tanks pressure is alot higher than the 40 psi needed at the gun so you have a large reserve to use and it refills whilst the paint dries out a little.

but like shoxdr said get the biggest possible, a second hand atlas copco, broomwade, compair are all well built.

engine bay and panels so far, am still prepping the rear arches so will be doing the whole car late this year. I was spraying cellulose with a flg-5 at roughly 40 psi. As for the compressor its very old and has no cfm figures so can't really help much. The cfm isn't huge though as it can't handle constant sandblasting even with a very small nozzle and its only a 1hp motor.

When you say you want to run your compressor from a house socket do you mean an extension lead out the kitchen window or hard wired. Which Devilbiss gun do you have.

Ideally, I'd want the power source to be taken from a standard plug socket. I was thinking of the hard wired route with larger compressors. Is this difficult to do and what's involved (sorry I don't have much knowledge in terms of hardwiring a compressor). My spray gun is a Devilbiss GTI Pro with a T2 air cap and 1.2 tip.

Correct me if I'm wrong but your FLG-5 requires 9.8 CFM?. I'm surprised it's only a 1hp motor as I'm looking at 3HP MINIMUM to supply my guns. I've read that you can couple two compressors together to give CFM output equaling to the some of what both compressors supply.

Also, if anyone knows whether I'd be able to get away with spraying a car with a 10cfm free air delivery compressor (150L receiver) coupled to my 12.4cfm gun, let me know.

either go for the 4hp which should well be capable of spraying cars or buy a 3hp setup with a decent size tank and if not suficient buy another and couple together giving 28cfm . i have a 14cfm that does most things . then a twin comp on one large tank thats 28cfm then a diesel 90cfm comp for blasting

it would need to be fed from your main fusebox on a seperate curcuit providing theres a spare way to do so ..theres a lot of variables to consider .eg have u power to near enough where comp will be going . is there spare capacity there to conect to is the feeder cable big enough to cope ??how far from power supply is it . list is endless without seeing it

Perhaps you'd be best getting a sparky to take a look and see what's needed, and if it's doable get them to do it then order the compressor?

just make sure u get a decent one that does industrial as well rather than an average joe soap that just rewires houses

I'm looking at that compressor too but for a 2cfm (!) Iwata lph80 hvlp gun, also with a 1.2 tip. I'm only spraying bits though.
