Which compressor - grateful for advice

Hello!
I bought an SGS machine (90l belt driven one) and it broke in 20 mins :-(

The XEV isn't supposed to have a 13A fused plug but that's what I need really - I understand many people do this.

Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations for something quality and reliable? Or maybe comment on the aluminium vs cast iron or the v-twin setup?

for the plug a 16 A plug is not too hard to install and can give that extra bit of power for the 3HP

Also the 50L tank one is 110 Volt

I have one very similar to the XEV with the V configuration and think it is quite good however no experience of the other 50L tank comp

I don't think you can go far wrong with a clarke industrial belt driven...I have the XET19 which I thought was the biggest that would run on 230v...but then I saw the XE37. The XET19 does what I want and is surprisingly quiet....my advice would be do not buy a direct drive....they are awful.

I had a direct drive...I think it was a Clarke red compressor....man it was awful....huge amount of noise and very little air! Luckily I bought it on eBay and was able to sell it on without too much loss!

Cool. Does anyone have any experience of trying to run one off a 13A lead? They recommend a 16A supply but say people do use 13A.
If you look at the wattage (2250) - you'd think 13A would be fine!

I dont think you can beat a Clarke SE19 series. If you wait until MM have a VAT free day, you spend almost half of what you are currently looking at.
19CFM it will need a 40amp breaker, Blue Plug. Just about the best bang for money, before you are looking at 3ph

Interesting... I can’t find SE19 - do you have any links please? I didn’t really want to have to get it specially wired in because I know I’m already pushing the load on the circuit and it’s gonna be tricky!
Any idea when VAT free days happen? Sounds awesome - my wife will hate it

13 amp is as far as you can go spuring of a 30 amp ring main at any one point .some people do it but im not recommending it what you do in your own workshop is up to you though

I think if you wire the socket into the ring or perhaps spur ? A double socket is ok for 26 amps power draw.

If it's outside, wire armored is an easy way to keep the cable protected and not so much dosh for 2.5mm - 4mm sizes if you were to put in a dedicated feed from the consumer unit.

But as you say it's free to try it on a 13a plug and see how you go.

Thanks very much folks - I guess I could have a 16a socket fitted. I was really wondering whether anyone had tried to use a 13a lead and had anything to report?...
maybe I’m cling with a 13a machine but I just think they quote 14CFM and the reality is probably more like 8.5 :-( plus I’ve had a rubbish experience with SGS

on a 13A... they’re only 2.2Kw - I struggle to see why 13A is no-go but I don’t want to buy something then find I have issues. Adding a 16a socket would mean changing my DB and would be a PITA!

Dunno - I was sanding something and had ear defenders on and it stopped working. I then found it had blown a fuse and tried replacing the fuse but every time I did that, when I started the motor, it made a not very happy sound and blew the fuse again! Must be the electrical motor :-(
to be honest, I think it was the cheapest of the cheap and I probably should have bought something like a Clarke in the first place

Yeah, thanks - I’m returning and asking for a refund. I‘ve just ordered this https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-boxer-14100-100-litre-belt-driven-air/
similar spec, quite a lot more expensive but hopefully better quality and ive not had a good experience with SGS ’service’. My machine is <2 weeks old and they insist I return it ‘for inspection’ and say there ‘may be charges’ - they won’t even just do a simple exchange, which is a real PITA as I’ve thrown all the pallets and packing away. Wouldn’t recommend them!

a double socket has 2x 13 amp outlets. afaik ring mains are 32 amp.

I have one of those SGS 90L belt drive compressors. I run it though a standard 3 pin plug. It has only tripped the breaker once, I had too many other things on the go when I switched it on.
The compressor seems OK, enough air for my needs.
I'm not doubting your ability at all, did you fill it with oil when it arrived?
