Which Earth wire?

Hi all,

I bought a used mig welder a while ago but it didn't come with an earth wire, I think the guy had melted it or lost it.

Anyway, I needed an earth wire for it so I got one off ebay and when it came through the connector was the wrong size. The welder is a Cosmo gas/gassless 130 (Turbo). I believe it is the same as THIS ONE apart from the brandings.

Below is a photo of the new earth on the right and the existing pos wire on the left.

My question's are
Do I need the replace the whole wire or can you just get the welder plug?

What size welder earth connector do I need?

Is there anywhere that you guy's/gal's know of who supply equipment for those on a budget?

It's called a Dinse plug, just chop the big one off and fit a smaller one to suit your set. Send a PM to DIYwelding or Weldequip (members of forum), they should be able to supply you.

They are normally sold by pin size. Measure the diameter of the pin to get what you want....smaller pin, equals smaller cable in most cases, is the new cable bigger than the old one?

The smaller one is likely to be a 10/25 dinse plug. Have a look here to see two different sizes and descriptions.

Should be a cheap bit of kit Mark - no more than £2. Google welding supplies Bristol. Ah look, I've done it for you! Wellyweld have a good rep. The plug is probably fixed to the wire with a socket screw (allan key jobbie)

Just peel back the rubber boot on both plugs, wd40 will help. The cable is usually clamprd by an allen grub screw just swop the plugs over

There are, I believe, three sizes of connector (diameter of the brass connector 'pin') but the largest is unusual.

What there are, though, are various cable sizes - i.e. the same size brass connector which will fit, but with a crimp and rubber boot for thicker or thinner cable.

there are three sizes of dinse plug used, 10-25, 35-50 and 70-95 numbers refer to cross sectional area of the cable ie 35mm etc . the size of the 10-25 plug is also smaller than the other two which are both the same size. the one this guy is after is a 10-25 dinse cable plug.
