Which of these two Compressors

Could you knowledgable guys tell me the difference between these two:

Clarke SE19C200 (O/L) 18 cfm 200 ltr 4 Hp 230v / 1ph / 40amps

Clarke SE18C200ND (OL) 18 cfm 200 ltr 4 Hp 230v / 1ph / 40amps

The more expensive one is a slower running pump and motor for longer life but either of those is overkill for DIY use and will do anything you might need unless you are thinking of starting a shot blasting business. I don't think you will run them from a domestic 13 amp plug though they will need a 40 amp supply.

The SE19 seems to have a cast iron pump and the SE 18 probably aluminium.

I've got a 45amp supply so no problem there. I realise they are overkill but who knows what I might want to do in the future ! So why is there a choice in motor if one is better than the other, is it purely down to cost ?

I enquired about something similar with the clarke tech section a while ago and was told that some bits were Chinese and some were Italian eg pump and motor and that is why the specs were similar but different prices, like I say just repeating what I was told.

As you said, the SE19 has Chinese 'components' to bring the price down, the SE18 has 'Italian' components.

The chap I spoke to suggested the cheaper machine, the SE19, would be fine for hobby use but that it would be worth spending the additional £100 if the compressor was being used full time in an industrial environment. But he couldn't say which 'components' this affected !?!?!

All a bit vague really as they offer the same guarantee on both, not sure now which to go for ..... are Italian 'components' that much better and what is the cost difference if either Italian or Chinese 'components' need replacing in the future ?

A compressor can never be too big. Air tools are dirt cheap and people don't nick them as easily. The also virtually don't break. Air tools are also small, so fit into those hard to reach places where electrical equipment don't fit. They do need a good compressor, though. Compare the price of an electric die grinder with an air model and the compressor becomes cheap quickly.

It used to be said that if you wanted to do a bit of home spraying etc the ideal compressor to have would need to be around the 14 cfm type, but nowadays with HVLP and air fed masks you would possibly struggle with a 14 especially the older types that aren't as efficient as todays, I suppose you would go for the biggest your electric supply and pocket can accommodate really.

I have the SE18 Cast version I use it for shotblasting and running air tools It does need a 16amp supply, and it only just keeps up with my shotblasting pot. I thought it would of been over kill however after owning it for 3 yrs I can say I would have a bigger unit in a flash.

I go by the premiss; Tis better to have and not need than to need and not have, pitty I didn't have this hindsight then

I dont know to be honest, Clarke are one of the few that do large single phase compressors.

If I hadn't of got the SE18 I would have bought a 2nd hand 3Phase screw, and fitted a phase converter, you can pick them up cheaply enough I might still

Hiya , just read your question on the difference in the se 18 and se 19 . Get the one with the Italian pump if you want It to last. And yes most of them will not work off normal 13 amp house supply. Cheers Middy.
