Why should it matter? A good machine should do anything, surely.
Isn't it similar to asking which car is the best? Why should it matter? A good machine should do anything, surely.
surely you jest....Why should it matter? A good machine should do anything, surely.
Thanks very much for the reply. The EWM brand wasn't on my radar, I will look them upI worked with brands like Miller, EWM, Lincoln, Kemppi, Fronius, Migatronic, Weco, Böhler... And own a EWM Tetrix 230 Expert ACDC.
If you have money to spend then Fronius, Miller and EWM are go to brands. Never had a chance to play with Lorch. Also be careful with Fronius as you need to pay extra money for some of the options like advance pulse setting etc.
Thanks for the reply from a fellow Cumbrian, too. I was looking at the Lorch T300. I happen to have a Lorch mig,I'm a huge fan of Lorch TIG sets. I've owned a micorTIG 200 (sold it on), still have my HandyTIG 200. And at work we have a V40, a T300 and a micorTIG 200.
The best of the lot is the T300, and that opinion is shared by our lads. It's easy to use, compact, powerful, has the digital torch on it, and it has a fantastic arc on AC and DC.
I also own and prefer their stick and MIG sets too, it's hard to beat a micorstick or a saprom speedpulse MIG.
The control philosophy is just great. They're so simple to set up, and yet so customizable if you delve into the menus.
I've owned and tried a good few brands old and new machines including kemppi, esab, lincoln, migatronic, jasic, parweld, thermal arc, probably others i forget.
I don't think they come anywhere near to the features and refinement of a Lorch.
I've never tried a fronius or EWM, probably the two brands that are comparable.
Totally agree. One of the machines the Unobtanium guys use in Canada use is an Everlast welder. Them boys and girls can weldI've used from the cheapest r tec which was bad, to the most expensive fronius and ewm, and to tell the truth it's 90% if not more down to the operator, don't get hung up on specifications, things like torch angle tungsten good gas, steady hand are way more important
...or to start an argument....Still not sure you’re going to learn anything from such a broad question. Feels like “what’s the best car?” or film or pair of trousers…
Before you look at particular models…..decide on your maximum budget. Then add 25% for extras, then go look at models.Which tig welder would you class as the best? Miller-Lincoln-Esab-Fronius-CK Worldwide-Lorch-Kemppi-etc etc
Dave
And before that, decide what sort of work you want to carry out...Before you look at particular models…..decide on your maximum budget. Then add 25% for extras, then go look at models.
I already know what I will be using the welder for. I have been making stainless steel exhausts for classic motorcycles for 20 years. Some AC work also. Thanks for the adviceAnd before that, decide what sort of work you want to carry out...
but you did not post this in the OP......I already know what I will be using the welder for. I have been making stainless steel exhausts for classic motorcycles for 20 years. Some AC work also. Thanks for the advice
