Which tap for 1/2"

Hi

I am wondering can someone help me out please ?

I want to screw a half inch bsp tap fitting into a pvc pipe. The pipe thickness is around 5mm.

Can someone tell me what size tap and drill bit I need as I am a bit dim on the terminology.

I also need to do the same for a 3/8" fitting.

I would be more inclined to thread the outside of the pipe , push a sleeve inside it, screw on a socket and then fit your tap. A tapered thread inside a plastic pipe could end in tears. Just thoughts

Agree with 8ob, threading the inside just won't work. The tap won't be the right size either. You need Plain/female threaded adapter . Cheap enough and you will get a proper job at the end of it. Just try places like Pipe Centre or BSS as not all pipe and fittings places carry plastic.
