which way should a compressor turn?

I have an old Pennine 200l belt driven piston compressor that i'm about to wire up (3phase), but it doesn't have a direction arrow for the pumps rotation.
Is there any test i can do to determine the correct direction of rotation?
I was thinking the flywheel/fan would be a clue but i'm not sure if it should draw air away from the pump or blow air over it?

Generally the fan blows air over the pump, and the motor fan blows air over the motor.

Didn't realise it was you ! Yes, that hose is good stuff, you had it for about a quarter of even trade price so total bargain.
