Hi all. I need to make up a short drive cable. I have the 5mm cable but I need to know who, or how the square drive is atchieved. many thanks in advance.

just a guess, but it looks to me that it would have simply been swaged to that shape, i.e. crimped in a press. could you try to make a wee form out of steel, grinder / file the square form out, shape to suit the final shape of the drive required, then put the form and cable in the jaws of the vice and nip up until it takes the shape? you might need to form a "pusher" of the same size to come beyond the wire so you have something to push against into the form. Doubt the wire used would have that high a compressive strength, so the pressure from the vice should be enough...
