This week, I have been mostly making the frame for the great big wicker man at the Wicker Man festival near Dumfries, end of July, ish.

Here he is!





When he's all withied up, i'll put up some more pics. He gets burned at the end of the festy.

It was fun telling the farmer (laird - posh, rich, tory farmer bloke) what to do. He enjoyed it too! Made a refreshing change he said. He drove one tractor, one of his "men" the other. They ended up with a rope on each trakker, when they both went slack we knew we had the balance, so welded her up!

did you drill a hole in the rock or was it some ancient ancestor if so has anybody any idea why

Not sure of the height, but I reckon Autocare's got to be close on 34'. Aye - silaging in the next field. Had to book an appointment with those tractors 18 hours ahead of time Half an hour, no fannying about!

The hole in the stone - it's a wedding stone. Hold hands in the middle of the stone, etc. Dunno who did it, but it's 5 years old. No ancient Celtic tradition there, methinks.

I thought, that wicker effigies were burnt in early october, as part of the finishing of summer, dying of the sun gods....
