window box

evening all. Want to make my mum one of these
For her birthday to go under a new window she has had put in. How could i bend the bar? They are only 10x2mm (approx) Flat bar was thinking if i made wooden block of right shape with big hammer G clamp and big hammer bending them around the block would this work?


also how can i put the picture in middle of text they always end up @ the bottom?

2 or 3mm will bend by hand you dont need a hammer, for a small job like this make a former from wood, or mdf, slightly smaller radius than you need to allow for spring back, and push it round, easy

Very easy, a wooden former, hold one end, and pull it round. You need to keep the bar pulled tight into the former though, dont just gram a bit and pull it round from the end.

10 x 3 is the smallest flat bar available from stockists, if you could get hold of a piece of round tube it would save you having to make a former.
It will bend very easily

i have measured it and it 13x3mm. Sound straight forward enough. I have a bit of scaffold bar so could use that

i thing those bits Wyn have been cut to long. The originals were made 20years ago in a secure mental asylum (rampton) metal work shop

13x3 is a stock size, comes in 4m lengths.

yep that's the one! The box will be custom size to fit the window (old apparatus for garage door) so probability bit big for normal places

I think they're for hanging "hanging baskets" off when the window boxes are on upstairs windows


Edit: Or maybe to stop it tipping over when sat on the floor

You could well be right, as it would have been just as easy to make it look all the same, so those bits must be like that for a reason.

I have got some 13x3 flat on the rack. I think it has been cut in half - 2m lengths.
Let me know how much you need if its any good to you.

Its under some 300 x 10 flat at the moment but thats getting cut up tomorrow.

Unless you want to make it from 300 x 10 that is?!

300x10 might be bit hard to bend and to fit to the wall! will measure up tomorrow when mums @ work
