Wireless winch remote

I'm transferring a small winch from one van to another so now would be a good time to upgrade the wireless remote.

It's only fitted inside the van for dragging stuff up a loading ramp, not used for recovery or anything.

I've previously been using the budget generic blue remotes with the membrane switches. They are ok for the price but don't take much abuse, the 12v battries are hard to find and, sometimes they seem to jam on or off and need the opposite button pressing to stop the winch winding.

On the upside, they are very cheap and all seem to use the same frequency so they are easy to replace when required.

Does anybody have a recommendation for something a bit better? Basically it needs to survive living in the glove box and getting wet occasionally. (Seems to be what is killing the cheap ones)

Also, I'd like to mount the winch in the cabin (so infront of the steel bulkhead) so a receiver with an external antenna that I could run through the bulkhead would be a bonus (but not essential)

I use this type on my trailer winch, you should be able to mount the receiver the other side of your bulkhead and run the control cable through. From memory the handsets use AAA batteries, so readily available and have a pocket clip on the back.

I like the fact that if it fails I can unplug and use the hardwired remote.

I only use those cheap blue ones too I have 2 for each of my 4 winches and have them labeled, never had a problem finding batteries

Those look identical to the blue ones I have.
They have lasted well enough for the price but I'm looking for something with a more rugged remote if possible.

The last van had a separate on/off/on switch fitted incase the remote failed but it was hard to use it unless there were 2 of you there.

Plugging the receiver into a socket so you could swap with a wired remote would be a good idea.
I'm planning on mounting the winch in the storage space under the front seats in this van so actually have plenty of room to fit a wired remote as well and it could just live in there for emergency use...

Look nice but I'm not seeing any prices on the website which makes me think they might be expensive

I don't mind spending the money on something decent but then I'm also weighing up the cost of the cheap ones at maybe £10 a year for replacement...

My winch came with a handheld control that plugs in which will just about reach the back of the trailer which was no good if I had to guide wheels onto the loading ramps so I bought the remote control.

They do have a good reputation in the recovery industry, expect to pay north of £300

The "basic wireless system" looks like a good £-vs-toughness solution...

Lodar are usually the best.
Never had any trouble with the blue ones

Would just look at putting a 3 position toggle switch at the back by the rear opening.

Wireless is nice but always prefer something actually connected wired as have had some frequencies affected by interference.

The stuff I'm commonly loading is on 4x swivel castors and runs up a ramp that I pop on the back of the van so it's a lot easier to guide things up the ramp with a wireless remote

Really all I need is a 2-channel wireless remote/receiver as I have the solonide etc.

I was just presuming the winch ones would be available in rugged versions for the off-road boys but there is probably some industrial stuff out there that would do the job..
