wiring up new pressure switch

thought better to be safe than sorry and ask people who actually know on here, which colour wire goes where?

Easy one first - the earths (Yellow/Green) connect together and to a tab on the frame of the switch.

It's difficult to tell from the picture, but if you examine the switch you should see a copper bar that moves and connects a pair of the contacts together (there will be 2 or 3 of these, depending if the switch is single or 3 phase; I would say single from the picture), it looks like the two top ones connect together and the two bottom ones connect together.

If this is the case connect the incoming blue to one side of one pair (top) and the motor blue to the other side.

On the 2nd pair (bottom) connect the brown in the same manner.

It shouldn't matter which side of each pair you connect to, but have a close look for labels such as "Line 1", "Line 2", "Load 1" & "Load 2". If there are any, "Line" refers to the mains and "Load" to the motor.

on the opposite end it has 2 connections, 1 positive and 1 negative, so the yellow and green wires, both to the negative and nothing to the positive?

If you could get a photo that is abit closer in it would help, th green and yellow should go to a teminal on the case somewhere and not to the four that are for the live/ nuetrals, i would have thought.

The earth must NOT be connected to the switch contacts.

This sounds strange.

Are the actual markings + and - ? If so they may refer to the screw that adjusts the pressure cut-off point.

Do the screws you mention hold anything in place are appear to adjust the length of a spring?

There should be a symbol on the ground connection roughly resembling an upside down, (tip down), triangle composed of straight lines. (First result found from Google):

the conections are stamped in the metal frame to the left of the screws p and n

Im not a big preacher, but if you dont know the colour of the wires then perhaps you should ask someone who does, After all we are along time dead.

As someone said the other day, it's 'have', not 'of'. You'd be surprised just how many overlook the obvious, so it's a valid question. Personally, I would agree with Woody.v8's suggestion though. It would probably be safer if you asked someone you know who is a bit more electrically inclined to sort it for you.
